Globally, atherosclerosis is recognized as the leading cause of death. Among its various manifestations, peripheral artery disease (PAD) has been steadily increasing in patient numbers each year. When PAD becomes severe, it can necessitate leg amputation, and its five-year survival rate is even lower than that of certain cancers--underscoring its seriousness as a life-threatening disease. Although metal mesh stents are widely used in cardiac treatments to improve blood flow, there is currently no definitive device for the lower limbs that matches those used in the heart. As a result, the problem of blood vessels becoming blocked again in a short period remains unsolved. Our company has developed an innovative stent for PAD called the "BioStealth Stent," featuring next-generation technology designed to prevent it from being recognized as a foreign object (stealth function). Stents for the legs must withstand repeated bending, twisting, and deformation while walking, and also fit securely within the blood vessel to maintain long-term blood flow. In particular, there is still no effective stent for long sections of occlusion below the knee. Backed by years of academic-industry collaboration in medical engineering, our team has been working to develop a next-generation stent that supports sustained blood flow over the long term. Estimates suggest that tens of millions to as many as 200 million people around the world suffer from walking difficulties caused by atherosclerosis. Our mission is to restore proper blood flow to their legs and help create a future in which, even in aging societies, they can once again enjoy the simple yet profound joy of walking freely.
